Kyoto University Permits Students to Wear Anything They Want for Graduation, Here Are 45 of the Wildest Outfits

When you think of a graduation ceremony, some things that come to mind are solemn speeches, elegant suits, and graduation gowns. We highly doubt that a zombie or Pikachu costume springs to mind. For students of the Kyoto City University of the Arts, though, costume ideas know no limits for their graduation ceremony, as they’re permitted to wear whatever they want. Here are the most creative, hilarious, and ridiculous costumes students have worn.

Punchy the Cat

For his graduation ceremony, this student dressed up as Punchy the Cat. Punchy is a lazy cat villager in the Animal Crossing series known for his preference for the funkiest clothing. Although lazy, Punchy is friendly, easy to get along with, and loves food and relaxation.

Punchy the Cat

We wonder if this student considered Punchy to be his spirit animal. Either way, we admire his creative thinking and think Punchy looks like he's waited his entire life to be up on that stage, collecting his degree.

Lego Figure

This Lego figure just got back from head shopping. It seems incredibly fun just going around carrying two spare heads in a basket. This costume is entertaining and creative, and he's rocking it quite well.

We wish we could've seen him collect his degree with those hands. It must not have been an easy feat trying to hold the diploma in those weirdly shaped hands.

Dressed as a Mascot

This costume may seem strange to many, but this student is dressed as Sento-Kun, the mascot of Nara City. The mascot was created in 2010 by the Nara City Office to commemorate the 1,300th anniversary of Nara Heijō-kyō, the ancient capital of Japan.

We don't know how this student did it, but he managed to turn the strange-looking but cute mascot of Nara City into an entirely creepy one. We hope you don't see that head in your nightmares tonight!

Devoted to the Dark Side

Any fan of Star Wars would recognize what this young lady's costume portrays. She's dressed as a member of the Sith Order. The Sith are the main antagonists of many works of the Star Wars franchise. They're devoted to the dark side and are known for their hate, deception, and greed.

Devoted to the Dark Side

The Sith are recognized by their red-bladed lightsabers, black dress, and use of their aggressive feelings. From her clothing, makeup, and accessories to her expression and posture, we can firmly say this student put a lot of thought into her costume and isn't afraid to channel the Sith energy.
